The Basics Of: Browned Butter
What does browning your butter do? It levels up nearly every single thing you want to bake and adds a unique, almost nutty smell and flavor to your baking.
INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED:
Butter :)
UTENSILS I’D SUGGEST HAVING:
Medium or large saucepan
Spatula
Large bowl
INSTRUCTIONS:
Preheat? No
Chop your butter into smaller chunks for faster melting and add all the butter you will be using to your pan
Brown the butter over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until it turns amber and smells almost nutty.
The butter will go through stages: melted - where it is yellow in color and the milk solids float on top; bubbling where the butter pops and makes noise as if it were grease; foamy where the noise has calmed down and the milk solids sink and begin to turn a toasty brown.
Tip: watch carefully once the butter begins to change color, as it can burn quickly if ignored.
Once browned, transfer to either a bowl or your stand mixer so that it stops cooking and does not remain on the heat.
Enjoy!
